Story of ELVIS MUSHILA: Kenya’s Prankster Sensation

Elvis Mushila has rapidly emerged as one of Nakuru’s leading YouTubers, captivating audiences with his unique prank videos. With over 100,000 subscribers, he stands alongside prominent content creators like Presenter Kai, who has also been honored with the Silver Play Button.

Early Beginnings in Content Creation

Born in Nakuru, Kenya, Elvis Mushila embarked on his content creation journey in 2019 while attending Langa Langa Secondary School. At just 16, during the COVID-19 pandemic-induced school closures, he sought ways to stay engaged.

“I started shooting content while I was in Form Three, in 2019, while at Langa Langa Secondary. At the time, schools were closed down because of the COVID pandemic, so I sought something that could keep me engaged, and that’s when I hit the streets of Nakuru,” he reveals.

Transition to Prank Videos

In 2020, after purchasing a smartphone with savings from his ‘Kazi Mtaani’ job, Mushila discovered TikTok. He began with street interviews but soon transitioned to pranks.

“One day while at home, I came across my mum’s wedding gown and thought of putting it on. I then thought of adding a stocking on my head and came up with a character who could make pranks on the streets,” he says. This distinctive character quickly gained traction, leading to viral videos on TikTok.

Building a Content Creation Team

Recognizing the growing popularity of his pranks, Mushila expanded his efforts beyond Nakuru, collaborating with a crew of four members to enhance his content quality.

“After noticing the pranks were going viral, I put myself out there, and with the help of my friends, things started taking shape.

I got to cross-post my content on other social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. I even started shooting content beyond Nakuru—that’s Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, among other places,” he shares.

Dedication to Comedy

The demands of content creation led Mushila to make significant life choices. He decided to pause his formal education to focus entirely on his burgeoning comedy career.

“Frankly speaking, had I chosen to continue with school, I would not be who I am today. I might someday go back to my books, but for now, I am focusing on building the brand,” he asserts.

Family Support and Future Aspirations

Mushila credits his success to the unwavering support of his family, especially his parents. Their encouragement has been instrumental in his journey.

As he continues to entertain and engage audiences, Mushila remains committed to expanding his brand and exploring new horizons in the digital content landscape.

Elvis Mushila’s innovative approach to pranks and his dedication to content creation have solidified his position as a leading figure in Kenya’s digital entertainment scene.
