Polycarp Igathe Education and Career Profile

Polycarp Igathe obtained a Bachelor of Arts in economics and sociology, from the University of Nairobi and is a graduate of the Strathmore University’s Advanced Management Program (AMP) with IESE Business School in Spain.

At the University of Nairobi, Igathe was the National Chairman of AIESEC in Kenya. 

After graduating, he got his first job in Australia. A year and a half later, he returned to Kenya and started working for Coca-Cola until 2000.

He then joined Africa Online as a sales and marketing manager and later joined Kenya Breweries Limited as a sales operations manager and then as a marketing manager.

After that, he joined the manufacturer Haco Tiger Brands, becoming the regional MD for East Africa. Igathe worked at Haco for 10 years before joining VIVO Energy.

Igathe later quit the position to run for Nairobi Governor on Azimio La Umoja’s ticket.

He lost to UDA candidate Johnston Sakaja.

Igathe is married to Catherine whom he introduces as “his life” and says has been at the heart of his success. Catherine Igathe is an established Kenyan technocrat with over 24 years experience most of which have been at the helm of leading local and international organisations.  

She has also undertaken several executive management and leadership programs including the Advanced Management Program at Strathmore Business School, Lagos Business School, IESE Business School (Spain) & Gordon Institute of Business Science – University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Together, they are blessed with three children, one boy and two girls.

Igathe also says that he is not the late Chris Kirubi’s son.

In a past interview, Igathe said, “Kenyans think that if you work diligently for long in a company owned by someone else, you can only be their son.”
