Danstan Omari is a well-known Kenyan professor and lawyer. He began his career as an unskilled professor and scale through the ranks to become one of the country’s best lawyers.

Danstan has represented former Chief Justice David Maraga, former Deputy President William Ruto, politicians, and the late Tob Cohen (he is still representing his family in the succession case and the murder trial).

He has become well-known for representing women who have been deserted by their ‘baby daddy’.

Danstan Omari Parents 

Danstan Omari was born on 6th December 1964 to the late father Elkana Mogaka and late mother Milka Kemunto Mogaka. He was born in Nyabite village, Nyamira county. 

Education

The prominent lawyer attended Nyamira Primary School managing to score 19 out of 36 points in the national examination. He then joined Ruiru Secondary School in 1978 and scored Division 3 in the national examination.

He repeated and joined Kiabonyoru High School where he studied with Interior CS Fred Matiang’i. He scored Division 2 and proceeded to Muguga High School for his A levels.

He secured a place at Kenyatta University for a Bachelor of Education degree but what he really wanted was law.

Danstan Omari Foundations

The UoN alumni run two Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), one is called Sheria Mtaani and the other is for baby daddies.

The former offers legal services for free to young delinquents while the latter offers legal services to mothers whose baby daddies have refused to pay child support. 

Marriage 

The lawyer is married to Pamela. Danstan Omari met her just as she was set to join Kenyatta University as she lived near Kiabonyoru High School. Except for her first-semester school fees, he paid for her university fees both as she undertook a Bachelor’s and a Masters’s degree. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. and is a lecturer at Catholic University. 

Pamela has also been supportive of him and also helped pay his school fees as he was pursuing law. The couple has two children, all boys.

Career

Until the year 2004, Wakili Danston Omari was a teacher at Muthurwa Secondary School before he resigned to pursue a course in law. BA Education graduate from Kenyatta University (1990), Danstan Omari started studying law at UoN at the age of 40 (2004) and graduated in 2008.

As a teacher, he started his career as an untrained teacher at Kiabonyoru High School in 1987. In 1991, He was posted by TSC to a school in Bomet but he refused to report.

He instead taught as a BOM teacher at Kiabonyoru High School and in 1992, TSC reinstated him to teach at the same school.

He was quickly promoted to Deputy Principal two years later (1994) but interdicted by TSC the following year for allegedly influencing students to strike. He then traveled to Nairobi where he got a job as a hotel manager and later as a nightclub manager.

In 1999, he won the case against TSC and was paid all the money he didn’t earn in 4 years he was suspended from service. He used the money to start a matatu business. He was posted to a school in South Mugirango before being transferred to Muthurwa Secondary Secondary the following year.

He took a loan from Mwalimu Sacco in 2004, paid for his first-year LLB fee at UoN, and resigned from TSC that same year – his wife helped him pay the other year’s fee.

The Directorate of children’s services advertised a job for a children’s officer which he applied for and got it. He was posted to Kirinyaga which forced him to drive to school every day from Kirinyaga. He also applied for a Masters’s program at UoN in the same year (2004). He graduated in 2008 and immediately enrolled at KSL.

On 4th November 2011, he was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He then resigned as a children’s officer and joined Musyoki Mogaka and Company Advocates (2011). He made a name by representing ‘baby mamas’ in court especially those whose baby daddies refused to pay upkeep money.

Danstan Omari represented ‘Baby mamas’ against prominent people like Ken Lusaka, Bishop David Murithi, Charles Nyachae, David Maraga, and Mithika Linturi among very many similar cases.

He has also managed to represent William Ruto in the infamous ‘Abby’ case, Johnston Muthama in his divorce case, Tob Cohen, and Investigator Jane Mugo among other many prominent names.

Danston Omari is also a lecturer of law at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) where he teaches jurisprudence, criminal law, professional ethics, and trial and rights of a child.

He is married to his teenage lover, Pamela who is also a lecturer at CUEA. Their marriage is blessed with two sons.

Wakili Omari comes from Nyabite Village in Nyamira County and was born to the late Elkana Mogaka and Mama Milka Kemunto on 6th December 1964. He attended Nyamira Primary School, Ruiru Secondary School, Kiabonyoru, and did his A levels at Muguga High School.

He handles an average of 8 cases daily but on a busy day like yesterday, he would do 15.
