Kenya Acquires 10,000 Electric Bicycles, Each Priced at Sh160,000

President William Ruto has set Kenya on the path to a cleaner, greener future, announcing plans to replace over two million fuel-powered motorcycles with electric bicycles.

During the launch of the national e-mobility program in Mombasa County, he kick-started this eco-conscious journey by unveiling the first 1,000 e-mobility motorcycles.

In a bold move, Ruto has given the green light for the importation of 10,000 e-mobility motorcycles, signaling a major shift in Kenya’s transportation landscape. Speaking passionately at Mama Ngina Drive, he revealed that Kenya is ready to host a high-level climate change conference, reaffirming its commitment to combating global warming and carbon emissions.

The president emphasized the affordability of these e-mobility bikes for bodaboda operators, with a price tag of around Sh160,000 per bike.

This is a significant departure from the exorbitant costs they’ve faced for fuel-powered motorcycles, which sometimes reached as high as Sh300,000.

Ruto also highlighted the government’s efforts to make these eco-friendly bikes more accessible by partnering with Spiro, Kenya Commercial Bank, and Safaricom to establish a seamless payment system.
