Growing up in Mombasa, Janet has a twin brother named Timothy Mbugua. She attended Brookhouse High School before pursuing higher education at the United States International University (USIU).
Later, she earned a degree in Mass Communication from Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Malaysia. Janet furthered her studies with an MBA in Global Business Management from the Swiss Management Academy in Nairobi, Kenya.

In 2015, Janet married Edward Ndichu, a business executive with a background in digital banking and financial technology.
Together, they have two sons, Ethan Huru Ndichu, born in October 2015, and Mali Ndichu. Despite her public persona, Janet maintains a level of privacy regarding her family life.

Janet’s media career began at 19 when she joined 98.4 Capital FM. She later moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2009 to work as a news anchor, reporter, and producer for the Pan-African current affairs show, Africa 360, on e.tv.
Upon returning to Kenya, Janet became a leading news anchor at Citizen TV, co-hosting prime-time segments like Monday Special and The Big Question alongside Hussein Mohammed.
In 2014, she showcased her acting talent by starring as Pendo Adama in the television series “Rush.”

Beyond her media career, Janet is a passionate advocate for gender equality and menstrual health. She founded the Inua Dada Foundation, aiming to create a supportive environment for girls and women in Kenya.
