President William Ruto on Wednesday appointed former Senator Isaac Mwaura as government spokesperson. In the announcement made by the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Wednesday evening, Mwaura will immediately assume the position that was left vacant following the resignation of Colonel Cyrus Oguna.
Oguna served as the government spokesperson from May 2019 until October 2022, when he resigned to take up the position of Chief of Staff for Siaya Governor James Orengo.
Prior to the appointment as government spokesperson, Mwaura had been nominated by President William Ruto to serve as a CAS in the office of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
He was, however, yet to assume office following the court ruling that suspended the CAS nominations.
The orders were issued following a petition lodged by the Law Society of Kenya, which argued that the increase in the number of CAS slots from the originally recommended 23 to 50 is against the law.

In the new appointment, Mwaura will be deputized by media personalities Mwanaisha Chidzuga and Gabriel Muthuma.
His new position is classified under Job Group U, which attracts a basic monthly salary of between Sh292,765 to Sh576,120.
He will also be entitled to a monthly house allowance of Sh100,000, entertainment allowance of Sh100,000, extraneous allowance of Sh100,000, and domestic servants allowance of Sh100,000.
His new responsibilities include propagating government policies and initiatives, publicizing government programs, responding to journalists on government actions, and communicating official government statements.
