How To Join Department of Criminal Investigation In Kenya

DCI announces job vacancies for more employees in the intelligence unit The Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) wants to hire more employees to join its intelligence unit in efforts to fight and control crime in the country.

The targeted employees will join the Crime and Intelligence Research Bureau (CRIB) in the DCI headquarters.

The office also has branches in all regions, counties, and sub-counties that coordinate with the headquarters for various activities related to crime.

The police headquarters sent a memorandum to all commanders asking all officers of the rank of Inspector General and below to be qualified to apply to the DCI for possible employment.

How To Join CID In Kenya

To be recruited in a Department of Criminal Investigation/DCI officer in Kenya (for those already working in the National Police Service), you must fulfill all of the following;

  • Hold a minimum KCSE mean grade of C Plain – you must also have C (plain) in English AND/OR Kiswahili. Equivalent grades from any other examination accredited in Kenya may be considered.

OR

  • Hold a Degree/Diploma in any of these fields: Pure Sciences, social sciences, and Applied Sciences. Please note that you must have met the minimum KCSE grade requirements set above.
  • Must have worked in police service for at least five (5) years
  • Must be fifty-five (55) years old (or below) for Gazetted police officers and the members of the Inspectorate.
  • Must be forty-five (45) years old (or below) for applicants of Other Ranks.
  • Those with tried, tested, & proven passion for conducting investigations and operations may be considered (as long as you have passed all police exams and you have no disciplinary case).

Specific Skills Required to Join DCI in Kenya

  1. Demonstrated professional integrity, maturity, and ability to pay attention to detail.
  2. Proven ability to always maintain objectivity on the job. You must also prove that you can apply logical reasoning and plan tactically (and strategically).
  3. You must have the ability to work under pressure persistently and meet tight deadlines.
  4. Strong communication skills- oral and written- and good listening skills.
  5. Experience in doing your work with computers including knowing how to use presentation software, business intelligence software, word processing software, and the internet.
  6. Ability to independently analyze complicated scenarios or massive volumes of material and prepare professional reports.
  7. Ability to work within a multi-faceted crime investigative team with minimum supervision.
  8. You must be good at problem-solving, proactive, innovative, and results-oriented.
  9. You must have the ability to develop as well as maintain professional networks.

To be appointed as a CID Officer, you need to be experienced in basic detective work before you would be considered. Uniformed officers must complete their 2-year probationary period before being considered for a post within the CID.

It also integrates with other government databases to enhance the process of identifying criminals and communicates with investigative and operational units to provide analytical support. It works under DCI Mohamed Amin.
