How to Apply for a Duplicate Logbook in Kenya

To apply for a duplicate logbook in Kenya, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Visit the nearest Huduma Centre or police station and request a police abstract. The abstract form should contain the name of the person whose name appears on the logbook.
  2. Get a tape lift report for the engine of your vehicle from the CID department.
  3. Make a sworn affidavit statement of the current owner.
  4. Submit the following documents to the NTSA TIMS:
    • Police abstract
    • Tape lift report
    • Sworn affidavit
    • Copy of ID/ Certificate of Incorporation/Business Registration Certificate
    • Application form for a duplicate of logbook

The application fee is KES 2,000.

Section 6 (6)  of the Traffic Act provides that where a registration certificate has been lost, destroyed or defaced or the particulars thereon have become illegible, the owner of the vehicle shall apply for a duplicate certificate.

  1. Go to the NTSA TIMS website and click the “Vehicle Services” tab.

  5. Click on the “Apply for Duplicate Logbook” button.

Some additional things to keep in mind when applying for a duplicate logbook:

  • You must be the vehicle’s registered owner to apply for a duplicate logbook.
  • The vehicle must be registered in Kenya.
  • The application must be made within 3 months of the date of loss of the original logbook.
