The National Transport and Safety Authority – NTSA migrated to a New NTSA TIMS Portal. This is to better their services.
We are in a digital era and such portals are created to reduce congestion in offices and provide services to a larger number.
The portal is accessible from a mobile device (smartphone) and a computer. The New NTSA TIMS Portal was created to manage the following services offered by NTSA:
- Vehicle Registration (New Registration and Reregistration)
- Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer.
- Vehicle Inspection (Booking and Payment)
- Vehicles Records Management

The logbook transfer charges depend on the engine capacity of the vehicle. The following are the current secondhand motor vehicle logbook transfer charges as per the NTSA service guide.
- A vehicle that’s 1000cc and below Ksh 2,210
- A vehicle between 1001-1200cc Ksh 2,440
- A vehicle between 1501-1700cc Ksh 2,960
- A vehicle between 1701-2000cc Ksh 3,245
- A vehicle between 2001-2500cc Ksh 4,395
- A vehicle between 2501-3000cc Ksh 5,505
- A vehicle that’s 3001cc and above Ksh 6,465
- A trailer less than four wheels Ksh 1,580
- A trailer with four wheels and more Ksh 2,240
- A Tractor 1,580
The access portal is accessible to all registered users. This implies that registration to the TIMS Portal is free. However, the services offered on the portal are payable. The following are the categories of users who can register on TIMS:
- Individual
- Dealer
- Financial Institution
- Company
- Driving School

Procedure to Access NEW NTSA TIMS Portal.
The following link will take you to the New NTSA TIMS login page. https://timsvirl.ntsa.go.ke/
Click on the link then enter your username and password. Then Click on GET CODE. The code shall be sent to the mobile number that you registered with.
Input the code received in the Security Code area. Then Click on Sign in. Kindly note that the security code expires after a short while.
Once you have logged in, you can access the different services offered on the portal.

If You Have an Account on the Old Portal …This is What to do.
If you have an account on the old TIMS NTSA portal, you do not have to create an account. All your details and vehicles if any have been migrated to the new system.
To access the new TIMS VIRL system, all you need is to use the option of forgot password. Under the username option, enter your ID number and proceed.
Some information relating to your account will be displayed. This information is only some part of your phone number.
If the number is yours and accessible at the moment, click on the send code option. A verification code will be sent to your cell phone.
After entering the one-time code, the system will request you to change your password. Change your password and proceed to login into your account.
