Eric Ng’eno, a former State House speechwriter, is returning to the iconic building in the same position, this time to work with President William Ruto.
Images shared by Ruto’s photographer, Nesh Maina, show Eric Ng’eno polishing the president-elect’s acceptance speech after the Supreme Court of Kenya validated his victory.
Eric Ng’eno rose to popularity after outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee administration came into power in 2013 for what was regarded as “outstanding speeches”.
Presidential Strategic Communications Unit
Eric worked as the President’s Senior Director of Messaging (Speech, Occasional Messages, and Commentary) from May 2013 to June 2020, when he and four other members of the communication team were suspended from the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit (PSCU) for allegedly inconsistent messaging.
Others who fell for the axe are Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi, external press director Munyori Buku and events director James Kinyua.
After leaving State House, the four joined Ruto’s Communication team in Karen where they joined Communication Secretary David Mugonyi and Director of Communication Emmanuel Tallam.
William Ruto Personal Assistant
“Initially, I didn’t understand why communication skills were that important for him. But he was clearly farsighted. When the Grand Coalition Government was formed, he was appointed Minister for Agriculture. As a minister, Hon Ruto wanted technical materials to be packaged in a language that could be used to successfully engage a national audience. He is rather good at it, and we spent lots of time going through a lot of documents and prepping him for presentations at various levels,” Ng’eno revealed.
