Christopher Khaemba Biography & Nova Pioneer Group of Schools

Christopher Khaemba, a distinguished Kenyan educator, has significantly influenced the educational landscape in Africa. As the co-founder of the Nova Pioneer Group of Schools, Khaemba has been instrumental in shaping innovative learning environments that nurture future leaders.

Early Career

Khaemba’s journey in education began after his tenure as an officer and pilot with the Kenya Air Force, which he left in 1984 to pursue teaching.

He joined Alliance High School as a mathematics and physics teacher, dedicating 14 years to the institution and eventually rising to the position of principal.

Under his leadership, Alliance High School consistently ranked among the top-performing schools in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.

In April 2013, Khaemba joined the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) as the Deputy Director of teacher Management. 

He went on to join the Nairobi City County in September 2013 as an Executive in charge of Education, Youth, Sports, and Social Services before getting a promotion to become an executive in charge of Urban Planning and Lands.

African Leadership Academy

In 2008, Khaemba’s commitment to fostering leadership led him to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he became the inaugural dean of the African Leadership Academy (ALA).

This institution focuses on developing the next generation of African leaders by providing a rigorous academic curriculum combined with leadership training.

Khaemba’s tenure at ALA further solidified his reputation as a visionary in education.

Building upon his extensive experience, Khaemba co-founded the Nova Pioneer Group of Schools in 2015, alongside partners Oliver Sabot, Oliver Rothschild, and Chinezi Chijioke.

Nova Pioneer aims to deliver a world-class education that emphasizes leadership, innovation, and critical thinking. The first campus opened its doors in January 2016 with 128 male students, followed by the inauguration of a girls’ school in January 2017 and a primary school in 2018.

By September 2022, Nova Pioneer had expanded to six campuses across Kenya, impacting thousands of students with its unique educational approach.

Recognition & Awards

Khaemba’s dedication to transforming education has not gone unnoticed. In 2024, he was named among the ten finalists for the Africa Education Medal, an accolade recognizing individuals who have demonstrated impact, leadership, and advocacy in the field of education.

This honor reflects his unwavering commitment to developing innovative educational models that prepare students to thrive in a dynamic world.
