Beatrice Elachi is a Kenyan politician who currently serves as a member of parliament for the Dagoretti North constituency. She previously served as Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly from 6 September 2017 until her resignation on 11 August 2020. As Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, she replaced Alex Ole Magelo, who did not contest his seat. Immediately before her election, she was the Majority Whip in the Kenya Senate.
Beatrice was born in Kakamega in a family with four children. She attended St. Teresa’s Primary School for her elementary education. She then transferred to Moi Girls Vokoli High School, in Vihiga County, for he secondary education.
She was then admitted to Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital and largest city. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Peace and Security Studies. She obtained a Master of Arts degree in the same subject, also from Africa Nazarene University. In addition, she pursued the women and leadership program at the esteemed University of European Business University of Luxembourg.
During her days as Speaker, Beatrice replaced the late Alex Ole Magelo. She left after three years of service after being in the office from September 2017 to August 2020. She has also served as the Majority Whip in Kenya State.

Early Life
Beatrice Elachi was born in 1973 in Kakamega, a town in western Kenya. Her parents had four children. She grew up and had her studies in Kenya.
Education
Beatrice had her elementary education at St. Teresa’s Primary School. She later studied at Moi Girls Vokoli High School in Vihiga County.
Elachi enrolled at the Africa Nazarene University, a private Christian-founded tertiary institution.
The renowned politician holds a Bachelor of Arts in Peace and Security Studies. She obtained a Master of Arts degree from Africa Nazarene University.
Beatrice Elachi Career
Beatrice Elachi was a Programs Officer for the United Nations Program for Women collaborating with the National Council of Women of Kenya and the Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development.
The politician was a trainer of women parliamentarians in collaboration with the UN Program for Women (2003-2010). She was the Secretary General of the Alliance Party of Kenya (2010-2013).

Beatrice Elachi got a nomination to the Senate as a member of The National Alliance in 2013. Eventually, she became the Majority Chief Whip in the Upper Chamber. She is the first woman to sit in the position.
After the Jubilee Alliance primaries, in April 2017, in the Dagoretti North Constituency, she emerged as the winner. Elachi lost to Paul Simba in the August 2017 general elections.
After being a nominee, she became the elected speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly on September 6, 2017. She left office on September 6, 2018, after several accusations. Beatrice was reinstated through a court order in October 2019.
After reinstatement, she removed Mr. Jacob Ngw’ele from office as the assembly’s clerk. Jacob forcefully left the Public Service Board.
According to Standard Media, the MCAs tried to impeach the speaker following these allegations:
- office abuse
- militarizing the assembly
- law disregard
- victimizing assembly members and staff
- impunity
- corruption
- poor leadership
- unlawful appointment for the assembly’s clerk
In August 2020, she resigned as Nairobi County Speaker in a televised address. Among her reasons were death threats that have made her work untenable at City Hall.
Beatrice Elachi, who vied on an ODM ticket, won the Dagoretti North Parliamentary seat in August 2022.
